The first event promotes merger guidelines and the effects on competition.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division recently co-hosted the first of three workshops to facilitate dialogue surrounding merger guidelines. The first workshop was held as a virtual panel discussion including academics, economists, practitioners, and former enforcers.
The guidelines under discussion include mergers not increasing concentration within already concentrated markets, not removing or lessening competition between firms, not extending an already dominant position, nor tending to create a monopoly.
Public comments are encouraged and may be submitted to the FTC’s website through September 18. The FTC stated, “The agencies will use the public comments to evaluate and update the draft before finalizing the guidelines.“
